The Open-Air Gym Project aims to enhance the overall wellbeing and promote a holistic approach to health and development of the community. The project aims at increasing and enhancing the socialization and local networking within the community.
Cochin Shipyard Limited along with Saukhyam Charitable Trust established 10 open air gyms at different locations in Ernakulam. The locations were selected on the basis of accessibility of the community members so as to ensure maximum utilisation of the facilities. The project witnessed a large-scale response from the public who are the major beneficiaries of the project.
AGEING GRACEFULLY
Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) undertook a transformative construction project to create a new building specially designed to accommodate and serve the needs of the elderly individuals. CSL’s continued commitment to the vulnerable sections of the society resulted in a partnership with Bethlehem Abhayabhavan to improve the building to incorporate necessary amenities and facilities to promote a sense of well- being, social engagement and mental stimulation with the help of a psycho – social rehabilitation.
The Abhayabhavan, is an organization that has been creating lasting change in the lives of distressed people, specifically the mentally ill and geriatric person in Kerala for the past two and half decades.
The company’s unwavering commitment to understanding the needs of the elderly population and the subsequent creation stands as a predominant difference in their lives.
A BEACON OF CARE
Establishment of Primary Medical Centre at CUSAT
Primary health care is a critical component of health that focuses on delivering essential and accessible services to individuals and communities. COVID pandemic has created an uncertainty and raised questions upon the health of people. CUSAT has identified a major dilemma due to lack of infrastructure within their campus that deals with health conditions and emergencies. In the pursuit of a healthier tomorrow, Cochin Shipyard Limited has undertaken a profound endeavour by the construction of a new medical centre within the campus.
The major objective of the project is to establish facility to cater the primary health care needs of the CUSAT fraternity in particular and the community in the vicinity. This venture by Cochin Shipyard Limited not only signifies their prowess in craftsmanship but also their social responsibility and the profound impact that can be achieved when industry joins hands with humanity. The newly constructed infrastructure boasts advanced medical needs, essential amenities and thus ensuring comprehensive and efficient health care services.
The construction stands as a testament to the well-being of the community and will undoubtedly serve as a centre for holistic well- being and development.
WHEELS OF COMPASSION
Vehicle for Cochin Cancer Society
Cancer is a complex disease that requires continuous medical care and treatment. Cancer patients rely on strong support systems including palliative care and hospice care. Cochin Cancer Society is an organization led by renowned oncologists in the city that helps patients to lead a normal life.
Treatment methods include chemotherapy or radiotherapy, for which transportation is often a vital component. Patients and care takers need to travel to the hospital on a daily basis and to cater this; an enhanced transportation system is required.
To ease this transportation difficulty, Cochin Shipyard extended support for the purchase of a new vehicle thus to have free access to transportation during the course of treatment. The vehicle is also utilized for free food distribution by the Cochin Cancer Society in the hospitals on a daily basis.
Physiotherapy Block at Family Health Centre (FHC), Noolpuzha
The FHC Noolpuzha is the National award winner for best PHCs catering to the tribal community where Cochin Shipyard Limited is committed to associate with in its developmental journey in Wayanad. The new most modern centre created with the CSR support of Rs.20 lakhs is catering to the needs of the community, predominantly tribal. The facility will support for Shock wave therapy, Laser therapy and Sports injury rehabilitation.
The new physiotherapy unit at Noopuzha Family Health Centre at Wayanad was inaugurated and dedicated to the nation on 08 Jul 2021 in a function held at Wayanad. The function was attended by Shri V J Jose, Director (Finance), Cochin Shipyard Limited, Ms. Adeela Abdulla IAS District Collector, Shri P N Sambath Kumar, AGM/Head CSR, Shri Shaju N I Addl District Magistrate, Sreelakshmi R, IAS, Sub Collector, Smt Subhadra Nair, District Planning Officer, Dr. Dahir Mohammed Noolpuzha PHC Medical Officer, Shri O K Sajith, Executive Secretary, District Nirmithi Kendra, Wayanad and CSL CSR Deputy Managers Shri Sasindradas P S and Shri Yoosaf AK.

Surgical Oncology Centre for Indira Gandhi Co-operative Hospital, Kadavanthra
With a legacy of more than 41 years, Indira Gandhi Co-operative Hospital, Kadavanthra have been serving the community with an affordable and quality health services. The Oncology unit started functioning under the leadership of eminent Oncologist Dr. V.P Gangadharan.
The hospital requested CSL to support their effort to serve the poor and the needy who are otherwise unable to afford such health service from private hospitals. It is extending the support to economically backward communities by making a tie up with Cochin Cancer Research Centre (CCRC), an apex Cancer care centre in Central Kerala to operate the surgical cases.
CSL as part of its CSR initiative upgraded their centre to an advanced surgical oncology unit at the cost of Rs. 35 Lakhs. On 23 March 2021, Shri. Madhu S Nair, C&MD of CSL inaugurated the facility in a formal function presided over by Shri M O John, President of the hospital in the presence of eminent Oncologist Dr. V.P Gangadharan and the Hospital General Secretary Shri. Ajay Tharayil. Shri. Sambath Kumar P N, AGM (CSR & Admn) and Shri. Sasindradas PS, DM (CSR) of CSL were also attended the ceremony along with other eminent dignitaries.
State of the Art X-ray Facility for Taluk Head Quarters Hospital, Punalur Kollam District
Punalur THQH is one of the best government hospitals in the state catering to the needs of a large population including people in Kerala- Tamil Nadu borders. On witnessing the good services rendered by the hospital, CSL extended its CSR support for establishing a Ceiling Mount Digital X-Ray unit at a cost of Rs. 59 Lakhs in the newly built hospital building. Such a developed and modern facility is usually rare for a Government Taluk hospital but is quite an inevitable service for a remote area like Punalur. Modernizing government hospitals upon which a vast majority of our population depends solely for health services can ensure universal access to quality healthcare services.
Medical Pathology Laboratory for Sri Ramakrishna Ashramam Charitable Dispensary, Thiruvalla, Pathanamthitta District
Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama Charitable Hospital, Thiruvalla working under Ramakrishna Mission strives for the welfare of the patients, majority of whom, hail from the economically backward sections of the society by providing support for them in the field of healthcare, disaster relief, tribal welfare, and rural management. Considering their intervention in the pandemic Covid’19, CSL supported for their medical dispensary for setting up of a pathology laboratory with most modern facilities including provision for undertaking COVID Rapid Antigen Test for the benefit of the local community. The Dispensary is able to run their project with the support from medical specialists of Pushpagiri Medical College. In a function held on 12th January 2021, Shri. Sambath Kumar P N, AGM (CSR & Admn) inaugurated the facility in the esteemed presence of Arch Bishop of Thiruvalla Diocese Rev. Mar Kurilos. Thiruvalla Municipality Chairperson Smt. Bindhu Jayakumar, Deputy Manager (CSR) of CSL, Shri. Sasindradas PS were other personalities attended the function, which was presided over by Asramam Director, Swami Nirvinananda.
CSL handed over Mini Van to Theruvoram
Theruvoram is a reputable organisation striving to provide food and shelter to the sick and destitute who have been abandoned and left miserably at the streets of Kochi.
As recognition of the noble initiatives undertaken by the Association, CSL provided them with a mini-van so as to extend their services to a wide area serving many more empty stomachs and weathered lives. The van will enable association to quickly reach to the needy and arrange their safe shelter.

CSL handed over Life Support Ambulances to General Hospital, Ernakulam
Cochin Shipyard shares an intimate bond of a kith and kin with the General Hospital being the backbone of public healthcare system of Ernakulam district with its array of able doctors, staffs and most modern facilities. CSL has been at the forefront to support the hospital under its CSR activities.
Given the devastating COVID pandemic condition, the hospital has been struggling to reach to the needy people across the length and breadth of the district with its limited ambulance services. For the hospital which has been bravely fighting in the frontlines of our war against corona pandemic, the Company provided two Maruthi Eeco Basic Life Support Ambulances.
In adherence to COVID protocol, Shri. Madhu S Nair, C&MD of CSL handed over the vehicle keys to Dr. A Anitha, Hospital Superintendent in a ceremony held at Company premises on 4th November 2020. Shri. K J Remesh, CGM(HR& Trg), Shri. Sambath Kumar P N, AGM (CSR&A) and Deputy Managers, Shri Sasindradas P S and Shri. Yoosaf A K was present during the function.
At the beginning of the year CSL had provided the palliative care department of the hospital with three home care vans. As evident, the Company has always been a forerunner in strengthening healthcare delivery system and ensuring universal access to quality health care.
Distribution of face masks to Health care professionals
Amidst the spread of Corona pandemic the palliative care workers of Ernakulam district have been putting their safety on the line for serving the bed ridden patients. On recognising their selfless efforts, CSL distributed high quality cloth masks among all medical personnel, para medical and allied medical professionals in palliative care sector and also among the palliative care staff of General Hospital, Ernakulam.
All the staff of Arogyakeralam project at all Panchayaths of Ernakulam district also distributed with these two layered mask of Handloom cloth on this occasion.
Mr. Sasindradas P S and Mr. Yoosaf A K, Deputy Managers of CSL handed over the masks to Dr. Annie P G and Smt. Sheeba Jose, of Ernakulam General Hospital and Ms. Mithu and Ms. Honey Devassi received the masks on behalf of Arogya Keralam.
The masks were procured from handloom weavers in and around Kannur rural settlements who were hard hit by loss of Onam sales due to Corona crisis
Freedom Food Factory - Mobile unit Inauguration
Freedom Food Factory – A unique CSR project of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) started reaching to public through District Jail, Kakkanad by its mobile unit which is supported by CSL. The subsidized, affordable and delicious food prepared by the jail inmates in the hygienic environment thus reaching to public who find it unsafe to access hotel and restaurants especially amidst this pandemic situation is thus becoming a boon to the public in general.
On 14th July 2020, Shri. Sambath Kumar PN, AGM (CSR) inaugurated the function by handing over the food packet to Smt. Chandrika Devi, Municipal Chairperson, Tripunithura in the esteemed presence of Shri. Sam Thankayan, DGP of Prisons, Shri. Sasindradas P S, Deputy Manager (CSR), Shri. Jagdeeshan K V, District Jail Superintendent and other district jail officials. The first sale itself was a huge success taking into account on the receptiveness from the public.
Imparting Mobility to Prison Platter
"Freedom Food Factory"- the mobile food factory of District Jail Kakkanad, Ernakulam that sells food cooked by the inmates had become an affordable and delicious food to serve the local public in Kochi at their door-steps with the timely support of Cochin Shipyard Ltd, Kochi.
The subsidized food centre is thus becoming a relief to all during this crisis period as they are providing quality and hygiene food with subsidized rate. On account of these invaluable benefits of jail food counter, Cochin Shipyard Ltd aided the district jail authorities to create a mobile unit of the Freedom Food Factory.
CSL supported this project by providing a van for distributing the food prepared by the inmates. Shri. P T Thomas, hon’ble MLA, handed over the key to Shri. Sam Thankayyan, DIG of Prisons- Central zone on a function held at District Jail, Kakkanad on 25th June 2020. Shri. Rishiraj Singh IPS, hon’ble Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Kerala flagged off the ceremony of the mobile unit in the esteemed presence of, Shri. K V Jagadeeshan, Ernakulam district jail superintendent and Shri. Liji Suresh, Municipal Corporation Councilor.
From the Death’s Door to Doctor’s Hand
Concepts like ‘Golden Hour’ and ‘Platinum Ten Minutes’ that represent the time span in which treatment offers greatest hope of survival, typify the importance of ambulance in public health delivery system. Unfortunately, our Ernakulam General Hospital is poorly equipped with just two ambulances in working condition. It was in this context that Cochin Shipyard entered into an agreement with Ernakulam General Hospital for providing three Eeco Maruthi Vans for Palliative Care Centre of Hospital and two Maruthi Eeco Basic Life Support Ambulances.
The inauguration and handing over the keys of these ambulances took place on 22 Jan 2020 by Shri. Madhu S Nair, Chairman and Managing Director of CSL. With these CSL contributed a total amount of 4.32 crores on different projects over the years. These services will aid the hospital to transport pregnant women, children and those that require emergency medical attention can effectively reduce maternal, infant and child mortality rates. To provide timely health care for trauma victims, heart attack and stroke patients this will immensely help to save the precious lives. Cochin Shipyard has always been a forerunner in strengthening health care delivery system and ensuring universal access to quality health care. CSR activities of CSL reach out to the community to ensure the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of ‘Good Health and Well-being’ is achieved.
‘Annadaan Mahadaan’-Lending a Hand to the Destitute
Community development has been pivotal in advancing Cochin Shipyard’s aspirations to build trust and to improve the quality of life of people. It is in this regard that CSL has been providing food for the inmates of S D Home, a destitute home in Perumanoor, Kochi. CSL Canteen has been providing food for the inmates for a couple of years now. Furthermore, CSL has supported the destitute home to procure an Eeco Maruthi Van for the conveyance of the aged inmates to the hospital and to bring food for the inmates from Cochin Shipyard on daily basis.
On 25 November 2019, CGM (HR & Training) Shri K J Ramesh presented the vehicle to Mother Superior Sr. Treesa S D in the presence of AGM (CSR & Admin) Shri Sambath Kumar P N and DM Sri Yoosaf A K. With the provision of the van, ‘Annadaan’ venture of CSL has taken a huge leap forward.
Sustainable development of communities has always been an essential part of CSL’s Corporate Social Responsibility. CSL focus on incorporating Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of ‘zero hunger and no poverty’ into responsible business actions. CSL’s initiative aided the poverty stricken people to have a better life and easy access to hospital facilities. The destitute need to be assured that they are not alone in their struggles. CSL proactively reach to them and bring them to the mainstream of the society.
‘Ayus’ to Ayushya
Cochin Shipyard extended its helping hand to Ayushya Centre for Healing and Integration, who extend the ‘ayus’ of elderly people by providing palliative care services. Knowing the fact that no elderly people want to leave their homes and stay in hospital during the sunset years of their lives, Ayushya centre has been extending support to their doorsteps. Instead of institutionalising palliative care services, the centre reaches out to those senior citizens. Recognising the appreciable work done by Ayushya, CSL ventured to help them by donating a Eeco Maruthi Van.
On 21 November 2019, CSL director Adv. B Radhakrishna Menon presented the vehicle to Sr.Dolarus Kannampuzha of ‘Ayushya’ in the esteemed presence of Gram Panchayath President Smt. Beena Thomson, Ayushya Director Sr. Bia Chattomkot and CSL Deputy Managers Sri Sasindradas P S and Sri Yoosaf A K.
By donating the vehicle, CSL has supported Ayushya to extend their palliative care services to more people in less than no time. CSL took the initiative to support Ayushya on recognising its responsibility in building a healthy society and in aiding socio- economic development of the community.
Distribution Of 50 Motorized Tricycles For Physically Challenged In Participation With Alimco
Cochin Shipyard along with ALIMCO extended their support by enabling and empowering the physically challenged to cherish their dreams. A number of 50 battery operated tricycles have been distributed to selected beneficiaries from Thrissur District, Kerala enabling them to lead a life with dignity by promoting and securing enhanced livelihood opportunities. The Cochin Shipyard extended their CSR fund to this cause by supporting ALIMCO with a cost of Rs.21.00 Lakhs
Urava - Water Atm Project At Attappady,palakkad District
Attappadi at Palakkad district is probably one of the biggest tribal settlements in Kerala. The area suffers from malnutrition and infant mortality. Attappadi is a water thirsty area, which has been witnessing severe water shortage during summer. The two major rivers, Bhavani and Siruvani in that area are polluted and shortage of clean water has been cited as one of the major reasons for the unhealthy living conditions of the 100 odd tribal settlements in that area.
Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) extended their CSR support for RO Plant and four water ATMs at different locations of the Attappady region. The plant is located at Sambarkode, the main centre of the region which is using water from Siruvani river. CSL spent an amount of Rs.20 Lakhs for this pilot project which is implemented by Santhi Medical Information Centre.

Csl Contributed Rs.25 Lakhs To Government Of Kerala Towards Activities To Counter Spread Of Deadly Nipah Fever.

Alpha Paliative Care Ambulance
Handing Over A Vehicle To Alpha Palliative Care, Padivattom, Near Palarivttom
Alpha Palliative Link Centre at Padivattom approached CSL for support for a Vehicle for Home care of the patients who are terminally ill. The Board approved the project for an amount of five lakhs rupees, of which the vehicle cost was around Rs.4.35 Lakhs and the rest of the amount was spent for the purchase of Physiotherapy equipments.

Ambulance To District Collector
Handing over an Ambulance to Sree Sudheendra Medical Mission, Ernakulam by the General Manager of CSL (Ship Building) through the then District Collector Sri. Rajamanickam.
Sree Sudheendra Medical Mission is a unique hospital started way back in 1971 under the Chief Patronage of H.H. Shrimad Sudhindra Thirtha Swamiji of Shree Kashi Math Samsthan, Varanasi. "Arogyameva Soubhagyam" is the Vision and "Affordable Quality Health Care" is the Mission of the hospital.In the four decades of its glorious existence Sudheerndra established itself as Brand of affordable quality health care.The hospital which is doing yeoman service to mankind is exhibiting charity for the poor and needy in the society and for charity, Caste/ Creed is no bar. The doctors and other staff strictly adhere to the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and personal responsibility worthy of the trust the patients keep on Sudheendra.
Based on the request of Sudheendra Medical Mission, an Ambulance worth Rs.9.00 lakhs was provided by CSL throguh its CSR funds for the year 2015-16 to facilitate the transportation of emergency cases especially of the Poor people who seek treatment from the hospital.
Blood Bank At Perambra Hospital
Support For Setting Up Blood Bank
EMS Memorial Cooperative Hospital and Research Centre has been functioning in Perambra, a small town near Kozhikode, Kerala, catering to the needs of more than one lakh people residing in that locality, for medical treatment. This being a cooperative venture provides treatment to the local community at a very reasonable cost since its inception.While shifting their premises to own building with advanced medical facilities, there arose the requirement of a blood bank for which the authorities approached Cochin Shipyard for support.CSL was happy to be part of this project and offered Rs.45 lakhs to set up an advanced Blood Bank in the hospital for the benefit of poor and needy patients in emergency.
The new hospital complex was dedicated for the benefit of the community by the Honourable Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan.Shri Madhu S Nair, C&MD, CSL, along with Shri M D Varghese, CGM (CSR) participated on behalf of CSL.

The Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama Charitable Hospital (Started in 1936), a 200 bed multispecialty hospital at Sasthamangalam within the Thiruvananthapuram city is well known among the poor and lower middle income families of Thhriuvanthapuram and surrounding area for its sympathetic services and highly subsidized charges. Various departments like General Medicine, General & Endoscopic /Laparoscopic Surgery, Gynec & Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Orthopaedic, ENT, Ophthalmic, Dentistry and Psychiatric with competent and efficient specialists provide seven days a week service to more than 500 patients on an average every day. 75 beds in the General Ward category are kept for free patients where the services and diet is also provided free of cost. The Nursing school started in 1962 to train and dedicate sympathetic, efficient and professional nurses with a zeal to serve the suffering humanity, now admits 25 meritorious girls from financially poor backgrounds every year for the three and half a year Diploma in General Nursing and & Midwifery.
Till 1980 this Charitable Hospital was the pioneer in the filed in this part of the state. However, for the last three decades the development was somewhat stagnant due to financial constraints. Moreover the continuance of the services has become a huge problem without upgrading the infrastructure- new buildings, renovation & maintenance of the old ones and procuring new & replacing some old medical equipments and instruments.
It was under this background that the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama Charitable Hospital approached CSL for financial assistance. In order to renovate and build an additional floor of the OPD Block, a request was put up for Rs.1.54 crores along with building plan and estimates. Realizing the significance of the proposal the CSL CSR Board Level 14th Committee Meeting held on 22/07/2015 decided to sanction Rs.1 Crore for this important initiative. Though the agreement was signed between CSL and the Hospital on 14 January 2015, the work of the OPD block was started on 7th April 2015 following a simple function inaugurated by the Honorable Chief Minister of Kerala Shri.Oommen Chandy in the gracious presence of the Health Minister Shri V.S. Shivakumar. From CSL, DGM Civil and the CSR Team members participated in the function.
CSL has continuously monitored the project and from time to time, the Hospital also shared the progress with CSL. As per the agreement the amount sanctioned was released in five different installments. The last installment was released on 12/02/2016. As a result of this project the hospital expects not only substantial increase in number of patients but also considerable improvement in the quality of the services provided by the hospital to all the patients especially the poor and the marginalized.
ANOTHER CONTAINER TOILET AT JOS JUNCTION BY COCHIN SHIPYARD
After the launching of Container toilet at Atlantis Junction, one more such initiative opened to public at Jos Junction, Ernakulam as a part of Corporate Social Responsibility (Swach Bharat Abhiyan) of CSL. The toilet designed by BKRG is being maintained by CREDAI under its 'Clean City Movement' campaign.
As it is made in the gender-neutral concept, the toilet will be open for all genders including transgenders in Kerala. The toilet is provided with ramps for wheel chair access and differently abled. The interior is finished in high-quality aluminium panels without joints which maintain top hygiene. It will smartly utilise the daylight through glass fixed on the roof. An advertisement area and a space for a vertical garden have been added to enhance the aesthetics of the space. Internal lighting is done through LED lights. All these facilities are made inside a 20-feet container suitably modified for the particular use. The maintenance charges and other expenses of the pay-and use toilet is met by the user charge and income from advertisements.

Renovated Toilets for Govt. Brennen College, Thalassery, Kannur District
In continuation of its support to the district of Kannur towards setting up of toilets in the government schools, CSL supported Govt. Brennen College, Thalassery to renovate the toilets including in the Swach Bharat Abhiyan scheme of CSR. On 11th January 2021, former M P, Smt. P K Srimathi Teacher inaugurated the facility in a function presided over by Shri. P Balan, the representative of CM’s constituency. College Principal Dr. Chandini Sam, AGM (CSR) of CSL Shri. P N Sambath Kumar, PTA Vice President Shri K P Lohithakshan, College Union Chairperson, Smt. Anupriya T V and DM (CSR) of CSL, Yoosaf A K was present in the function.
Toilet Complex at Govt Model Technical H S S, Kapprassery, Ernakulam
CSL has undertaken various activities to propel and aid Swacch Bharath Mission (SBM) of Government of India. Swachh Vidyalaya is a part of SBM that aims to build sufficient toilet and hand washing facilities at all of our schools. It envisions developing behavioral changes in school students to instill in them good health and hygiene practices. In this regard, CSL extended assistance for building a toilet complex at Govt Model Technical H S S, Kapprassery, Ernakulam.
On 20th February 2020, Shri. Toilet Complex for MTLP School, West Vengola
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA), the flagship project of Government of India was launched throughout the length and breadth of the country to achieve the vision of a ‘Clean India’. “A clean India would be the best tribute India could pay to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary”, these were the words of our honorable Prime Minister during the launch of SBA. SBA is a massive cleanliness drive aimed at bringing behavioral changes in people by instilling in them good health and sanitation practices.
In this regard CSL extended full support for the construction of toilet complex at MTLP School, West Vengola in Ernakulam District. Shri. Yoosuf A K, DM (CSR) inaugurated the toilet complex in the presence of Shri K N Ramakrishnan, Shri M T Reji and Shrimati A V Shoshamma on 3rd February 2020.
Dedication Of Household Toilets To 100 Families Affected By Ockhi Cyclone Disaster
Ockhi Cyclone disaster affected 100 families from Chellanam coastal village of Ernakulam district have been benefitted with the household toilets constructed under CSR Scheme of Cochin Shipyard Limited. The completed project has been dedicated to the beneficiaries by Shri. Madhu S Nair, C&MD, CSL in a function inaugurated by Shri. Hibi Eden M.P and on 19th August 2019.
The toilets have been constructed scientifically so as to withstand and survive in the coastal region. The project was implemented by Win Society, Eramallur. Out of the total project cost of Rs. 72 Lakhs, Cochin Shipyard Limited supported Rs. 55 Lakhs and the balance amount from the beneficiaries and the implementing agency.

Public Toilet Block On The North Side Of Csl
The toilet block constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (Swachh Bharat Abhiyan) has come up. The design was provided by M/s BKRG Group and the facility will be operated by M/s CREDAI.
The toilet complex was declared open to public today at 1130 hrs by Shri Madhu S Nair, C&MD, Cochin Shipyard Limited, in the presence of the CSL officials, Ward Members of Kochi Corporation, representatives from BKRG Group and M/s CREDAI.
The toilet block is located near Atlantis Gate, MG Road, just outside Cochin Shipyard.

Agreement With Ernakulam Social Service Society (Esss) For Total Sanitation-contributing To Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Of Government Of India
Cochin Shipyard entered into an agreement with Ernakulam Social Services Society (ESSS) to promote total sanitation in Cheriamthuruth village of Kadamakkudy Grama Panchayat.
The Agreement was signed at CSL between Shri. MD Varghese, the General Manager (IR & Admn) Head CSR and Rev.Fr. Antony Raphael, the Executive Director of ESSS.
Ernakulam Social Services Society (ESSS) is one of the leading NGOs in Ernakulam district, engaged in different development initiatives since its inception. Kadamakkudy Punchayat has been one of the areas where it has undertaken many interventions related to health, education and women empowerment. One of the problems which the target communities encounter is related to sanitation. In order to address this problem the organization sought the help of CSL for construction household toilets.
With the help of a household survey, the organization identified and selected 46 poor families that require toilet facilities. After the approval of the project by CSL Board, in order to launch this program, the CSR Program Manager of CSL visited the area on 2/10/2016. The launching function was inaugurated by the Vicar General of Diocese. The function was presided over by the Panchayat President. The key note address was given by the CSR Program Manager. The program was attended by the beneficiary families along with the Director of ESSS. The major objective of this project was to contribute to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan of Government of India and the Suchitwa Mission of Government of Kerala. The joint effort has been appreciated by all the speakers and they appreciated the contribution of CSL.
A total amount of Rs.50.00 Lakhs was allocated for this total sanitation project. The project is expected to be completed by end March 2017.
Drinking Water Project Chottanikkara
Ambadimala Drinking Water Scheme Inaugurated on 27 February 2016
The 750 families residing in Ambadimala settlement colony falling within the Chottanikkara Grma Panchayat will now have safe drinking water at their doorsteps; thanks to the CSR scheme of Cochin Shipyard.
The inauguration of the scheme was held at the site on 27th February, 2016. Shri Madhu S Nair, C&MD, CSL dedicated the scheme and handed over the key to the Grama Panchayat. Shri Anoop Jacob, Honourable Civil Supplies and Education Minister, Govt. of Kerala inaugurated the function in the presence of the officials of Cochin Shipyard, government of Kerala and the residents.
Major works of the project included a well construction (water source), over head tank ( 1,00,000 litre) pipe lines, pumping house, water purification plant and distribution points.
Besides CSL, the Panchayat, Individual land owners and other well wishers have contributed immensely to the success of this important project.
The Panchayat would be responsible for the running and maintenance of the system with its own resources.
The CSR Cell and the Civil Department of CSL extended full support to the Panchayat in undertaking the project within the stipulated timeline ensuring the best quality.
It is a unique example of demonstrating a quality work with the active participation and support of the Public Sector Company, the Local Panchayat and the Local People.(A different PPP Model!)
Neerurava- Redefining Drinking Water Intervention
745 sq km tribal belt of Attappady in Palakkad District faces acute drinking water crisis throughout the year. Even though the two major rivers i.e. Bhavani and Siruvani providing sufficient water which is not suitable for drinking as it is highly polluted causing to have many water borne diseases especially among children. Water becomes muddy during rainy season due to increased inflow of sediments from mountains and during summer river dries up leaving behind muddy water again. The same water is used for bathing, washing clothes and cleaning the cattle contaminating the water further and aggravating the water borne diseases in the region.
At this juncture CSL intervened and explored new avenues for helping the tribal people. CSL associated with Santhi Medical Information Centre, a leading NGO in fields of education, health and hygiene interventions for poor and marginalized people to undertake innovative solar water ATM project. Under the project, a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant was set up at Sambarkode area of Sholayur Panchayath. The plant takes water from Shiruvani River and it purifies 5000 litres of water in an hour. This purified water is supplied through tanks to the solar water ATMs located at different localities of the Panchayath. Each one can avail 20 litres of purified drinking water per day by using the water ATM card. The water costs 25 paisa per litre for tribal communities and 50 paise for others on this rechargeable ATM card. The utilization of water ATMs is accessible by a mobile app, which will create alarm once the water level goes down to 100 litres. These units will be filled immediately on a specially assembled vehicle.
In the pilot phase, CSL extended support for establishing 4 water ATMs and a RO plant. And now in the second phase CSL has supported installing 10 more ATMs worth Rs. 14.5 lakh. Smt Bindu Krishna, Senior Manager (Legal,CSL) handed over the ATMs to Smt. Rattina Ramamoorthy, Sholayur Gram Panchayath President in a ceremony held on 27th February 2020. Smt. Uma Preman, Director of Santhi Medical Information Centre elaborated the details of the project. Shri. Pradeep K, Senior Manager (IAC) Shri Sasindradas P S, Deputy Manager (CSR), Shri. A K Yoosuf, Deputy Manager (CSR) and notable representatives from various employees organizations of CSL namely, Shri Soman V D, Shri Johnson P K, Shri Thasleekh, Shri Akhil M S, Shri Shibu T K, Shri Shibu S O, Shri Jibson, Shri Jaimon, Shri Anoop V P, Shri Muralidaran P, Shri Aneesh and Shri Madanan were present during the function.
